This was Valentina Hasan during her audition in Bulgaria’s version of American Idol which is called “Music Idol”. She sang a Mariah Carey song… better watch the video.
She was not able to continue to the next but she was able to call the attention of millions. Amazingly, the popularity of the video encouraged Music Idol producers to invite Hasan back to sing the song on a live show a few weeks later. By this time, Hasan had more training with the English lyrics, made fewer errors, and poked fun at her own interpretation by singing the final verse in her original style.
She may have become a funny face during the audition, but see now, she’s very popular and she’s a star. She was interviewed once and she explained why she sang that song that way. She said that the song by Mariah Carey is her favorite and it really comes from her heart. What she did is, she recorded the song on her tape recorder and did a “play-pause-play” trick in order to memorize the song. Then, she belts the song according to how she heard it from her recorder. Now, can you blame her?
